Day 164, Tuesday August 10, 2021

Bemis Mountain Lean-to campsite to Little Swift River Pond campsite - 12.7 miles hiked today - 1968.0 total AT miles to date.

A pleasant and low impact day unfolded as we headed out just before 7 this morning.  The terrain throughout the first half of the day was mostly gentle undulations, with only a few steep climbs and descents to contend with.  The morning dew had dozens of spider webs glistening in the sunlight, and the fresh scent of pine permeated the air.  With the invigorating surroundings, we were able to cover over 8 miles before stopping for lunch at the Sabbath Day Pond Lean-to.

After lunch, we pushed on to our destination for the night, a campsite right on the shore of the Little Swift River Pond.  In addition to multiple tent sites, the camp had several canoes on the shore of the lake for anyone’s use. Everyone was too tired to take one out, but it was an interesting option.

Tomorrow we will have either a short day or a long one, depending on weather, as we will need to cross 2.5 miles of Alpine terrain in the afternoon, well above the tree line, and won’t be able to do so if the weather isn’t cooperating.  We’ll see.

Until next time…
