Day 163, Monday August 9, 2021

Andover, NH to Bemis Mountain Lean-to campsite - 9.0 miles hiked today - 1955.3 total AT miles to date

We got a later start this morning after breakfast at the hostel.  The weather no was moderate, with no rain in the forecast.  The morning hike consisted of a long 3 mile climb up Old Blue mountain that took up the entire morning.  The further up we climbed, the worse the visibility, as low slung clouds made views nonexistent.

We stopped at the top of the mountain for lunch, and then started down to the gap between Old Blue and the upcoming Bemis mountain climb.   We ran into several other thru hikers as we proceeded to start the afternoon climb.  By late afternoon we’d crested Bemisa and arrived at our destination for the day, the Bemis Mountain lean-to.  This campsite had one of the new ADA compliant, wheelchair accessible privys, required for all new buildings on the trail.  I have yet to run into a wheelchair hiker, but you never know.

Tomorrow we are shooting for 12+ miles over mostly ridge line trail.

Until next time…
