Pico ski slope campsite to Gifford Woods State Park - 7 miles hiked today - 1707.3 total AT miles hiked to date
Short day today as we hiked to a state park near Killington, for some brief R&R, resupply, and general drying out. We secured a couple of campsites for the four of us ($6/person - quite a deal). After setting up tents, we walked to the Killington Deli and marketplace for lunch and a 4 day resupply, about 3/4 mile down the highway.
After stocking up and eating deli sandwiches (I had a meatloaf sandwich), we walked over to the nearby outfitters. Although they stocked mostly ski and mountain bikes, they did have a smattering of hiking gear. Since I have a package sent from home to pick up in four days, I didn’t see anything I needed. I’m having some of my winter gear sent back to me, as we are approaching the White Mountains in New Hampshire, where the temperatures at night are already in the 40s. Also having my backup pack rain cover sent (old one lost its tie downs), my backup inflatable pillow (current one won’t hold air anymore), along with new pants to replace my ripped and torn current ones. Winter gear includes puffy jacket, stocking cap and gloves. Last, I have a new set of hiking poles in anticipation of being able to start using my left arm intermittently.
We will be working toward Hanover NH over the next 4 days, and plan to stay at a hostel there Tuesday night. We’ll see what the next 4 days terrain and weather allows.
Until next time…
keep up the good work!
