Gifford Woods State Park to the Lookout - 14.1 miles hiked today - 1721.4 total AT miles hiked to date
Left the State Park this morning in the driving rain, hoping to get a little further down the trail trail before the weather forced us to seek shelter. The rain was constant but slacked off a little for brief periods. I hiked today with Pinot and Firewalker. Whipporwill and defcon decided to stay at the park an extra day to wait out some of the rain. The trail conditions were slightly less muddy today, although just as wet.
Not a lot to see today beyond the wet trail, high water creek crossings and one unusual sight - a ladder fastened to the side of a rock wall. That’s a first. We did pass a nice waterfall, and some of the mountain ranges we could see were draped in rain clouds, making for a nice sight. We ended up at the Lookout, an enclosed cabin for thru hikers to use. Unfortunately it was full of hikers by the time we arrived so I pitched my tent nearby.
The rest of the week is supposed to be more rain, and I’m not looking forward to being constantly wet. Part of the experience I guess.
Until next time…
