Little Rock Pond shelter campsite to Clarendon shelter campsite - 13.4 miles hiked today - 1687.4 total AT miles hiked to date
Today was better weather for most of the day, and trail conditions are starting to gradually improve. There is still lots of mud, slowing down progress and keeping my feet saturated. We did have one torrential downpour in the afternoon, resoaking everything, but beyond that the sun was out most of the day.
We passed two rock gardens on the side of the trail this morning, with interesting sculptures and designs made out of rocks lying nearby. Due to all of the rain, every creek crossing that didn’t have a bridge was a challenge, requiring some fancy footwork to stay dry.
We scaled Bear Mountain and traversed Clarendon gorge on a suspension bridge. Near the end of the day, we had to climb a 1/4 mile rock scramble hand over hand to get to our campsite for the night. As I’m still working off of one arm, it was a very slow and meticulous process to negotiate the climb. Once up and over, we arrived at camp for the night and settled in. Right now Whipporwill, defcon, and Pinot are all still traveling with me. Tomorrow we have our biggest climb since we hit New England, over Killington Mountain.
Until next time…
