Brown Mountain Creek shelter campsite to Seeley-Woolworth shelter campsite- 15.8 miles hiked today - 823.1 total AT miles hiked to date.
In case I haven’t said it before, thru hiking can be days filled with beauty, excitement, challenges, milestones and more. Today was not one of those days! I woke up to a steady downpour and had to pack everything up wet. It continued to rain steadily all day. In addition, there was over 5300 vertical feet of climbing throughout the day, slogging up rivulets of running water where only yesterday a trail had been. Needless to say, there was not much to see beyond wet trees and low clouds. I had to cut back on the planned miles to accommodate the terrain and weather conditions.
There were a few bright spots. I was able to listen to several of Paul’s letters during my daily Bible time, and it helped to focus on something other than my sloshing feet. As I crossed a highway, I had a great cell signal and was able to hunker down under a sign overhang and make some FaceTime calls to family. I was also able to find a relatively dry spot for lunch in a rocky overhang. Other than that, wet and slow going the rest of the day. Hopefully tomorrow will bring better conditions.
Until next time…
