Day 172, Wednesday August 18, 2021

Moxie Bald Lean-to campsite to Monson, ME - 17.9 miles hiked today - 2078.6 total AT miles to date.

Today was our last push into Shaws Hostel in Monson, to prep for the 100 mile wilderness.  Uneventful day, as we had no significant views or mountains to conquer.  As has been the case for the last several days, we passed several ponds, forded a couple of rivers (including walking across the top of a beaver dam), and meandered up and down for most of the day.

We did run into Nimblewill, the oldest person on the trail at 83 years old.  He passed us like we were standing still.

We arrived at Shaws by early evening.  They were sold out of the 60 available bunks, so we pitched our tents on their lawn.  After a hot Ruben from the General Store, we all showered and called it a night.  Tomorrow will be a resupply for 7 days of the Wilderness. It’s unlikely that I’ll have service during this stretch, so it may be near the end before I’m able to update again.

114.5 miles to go.

Until next time…
