Harpers Ferry to stealth campsite- 5.1 miles hiked today - 1030.2 total AT miles hiked to date.
Spent the day in and around Harpers Ferry, enjoying the ambiance of this quaint and historic town. Rick made it into town early from the shelter he’d stopped at the night before. We had breakfast at the Quality Inn, where Three Jack had secured a room. After the requisite showers and laundry, Rick’s friends who lived relatively close came by. We all headed to the Historic District for lunch, where we met up with a few other hikers for a leisurely meal.
After lunch, the four of us said goodbye to the other hikers and spent some time exploring the old town. Lots of history from the days of Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and the Civil War. After this, Rick’s friends graciously drove us to Walmart for a small resupply to last us 3 days.
They headed home late afternoon, and I packed up to head out. Three Jack, Rick and I hiked back into town, stopping at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for the traditional “halfway done” photos. The other two headed into downtown for dinner amd I headed out of town, targeting the next shelter for the night. I stopped at the river and took the opportunity to call in on the monthly Family Promise coordinator call. I was able to update the team with my hike to date. We reiterated that pledges are still being accepted for the fundraiser,
I then hiked across the river, and headed north. It started getting dark, so I stopped a few miles short of my goal at a stealth site. Rick will join me tomorrow after spending the night at the Quality Inn with Three Jack.
Until next time…
