Wipiti Shelter campsite to Woods Hole hostel. 7.3 miles hiked today- 625.5 total AT miles hiked.
So, today was quite an interesting one. It had rained overnight so I had to pack my tent away wet. The sun was shining and it was about 48 when I started out. Within an hour, it had clouded up and started to sprinkle, and the temperature started dropping. I put my pack cover on and started adding layers. Shortly after that it started snowing. That’s right, nearly the end of April and snow was falling.
For the next several hours we hiked through cold, windy, snow covered and rocky trails. Very uncomfortable conditions overall. Fortunately by noon, we were approaching the day’s destination, Woods Hole Hostel. We pulled in around 12:30, and got signed in.
Once settled, we were able to indulge in homemade bread and blocks of cheddar cheese. The rest of the afternoon was spent with showers, laundry and relaxing. My high school buddy Bryce hiked in around 4pm, having parked in Pearisburg and hike the 12 miles to us. He’ll hike back with us tomorrow and shuttle us around for our resupply.
We spent the rest of the evening trading stories with Bryce and turned in around 9:30 in our semi private room.
Until next time...
