William Brien shelter campsite to Hemlock Springs campsite - 12.4 miles hiked today. 1409.0 AT miles hiked to date.
I passed another milestone today as we passed the 1400 mile marker this morning. The miles continue to mount up, although these last two days have been slow.
Quite a diverse day. Although it rained constantly all day, we saw a lot of interesting things and did a lot of climbing. Today’s altitude increase was about 2800 feet, all on wet, slick trail. We climbed up and over Black mountain and from the top could barely make out the Manhattan Skyline 35 miles away.
We followed that with a climb up Bear Mountain where a closed observation tower was located.
Down the other side we came to Bear Mountain State Park. There we hiked through a beautiful park, by a lake, and through a trailside zoo, with lots of interesting animals.
Next was a walk across the Bear Mountain bridge across the Hudson River, followed by a final climb up to our campsite.
Tomorrow is supposed to be better weather and more moderate terrain so we hope to pull more miles.
Until next time…
