Day 158, Wednesday August 4, 2021

The Barn to Trident  Col campsite 15.2 actual miles hiked today (28.0 AT miles) - 1901.7 total AT miles to date

We left Gorham this morning and headed back to the trail. As noted, we utilized an alternate route bypass to skirt some of the most treacherous terrain in this section, missing some of the current white blaze marked AT, but certainly having made up any AT mileage that we at have missed on blue blaze trails.

Although we went around the worst of the wet and sharp ledges, there were plenty of challenges today.  The first part of the hike was transitioning from paved road to gravel road to dirt road, and finally to the trail.  And then we started climbing.  My. Hayes provided the biggest trial of the day as it had steep climbs up the front side and sharp drops off the back side.  We saw several Alpine lakes, and the views were great today, as the weather was perfect.

Late in the day as we crested a series of rocky ledges, we hit the 1900 milestone.  Tomorrow we will cross into Maine.

Until next time…
