Day. 141, Sunday July 18, 2021

The Lookout to Thistle Hill Shelter campsite - 15.0 miles hiked today - 1736.4 total AT miles hiked to date

Another rain soaked day, with intermittent showers throughout the day.  The trail itself continues to improve, with only a handful of really muddy sections to negotiate.  Lots of climbing today, with about 3800 feet of ascent total.

Today saw the first significant trail angel action in quite a while.  Two separate road crossings had women set up to give out free food.  The first was cooking hot dogs, with chips, soda, and candy (I had two hot dogs).  The second a few hours later had fruit, pudding, chips, and soda. Quite a bonanza in one day.

A first today, when we had to cross a river using a cable that spanned the river, attached to trees on both sides.  The current was very strong and the crossing was knee deep.  Very stimulating..   Another new sight was trees with tubing attached, apparently to tap then for sap when in season. Last, I spotted a Boy Scout Eagle project on the trail today.

Tomorrow we will be heading into Hanover NH late in the day, and will take a zero there.

Until next time…
