Day 133, Saturday July 10, 2021

Story Spring shelter campsite to stealth campsite - 15.0 miles hiked today - 1648.0 total AT miles hiked to date.

We had a beautiful, cool, sunny day today with zero rain. Unfortunately the muddy conditions persisted, slowing us down a bit, but we were able to make 15 miles for the first time in several days. Also passed the 3/4 mark of the trail today. Pinot has rejoined and we hiked together for the first time in over a week. The others are slightly behind me and will meet up with us tomorrow in town.

The morning was spent climbing the 3900 feet up Stratton mountain.  We arrived just after noon and had lunch there.  The views from the top of the observer tower were spectacular, and you could see for miles. The is the spot where Benton McKay was inspired to propose the concept of the Appalachian Trail in 1921.

After lunch, the rest of the day was spent climbing back down the other side while negotiating the mud.  We passed Stratton pond at the base of the mountain, and forged on until about six, when we set up camp for the night.

Tomorrow is a Nero as we head into Manchester Center for resupply and a night at a local hostel.

Until next time…
