Madison stealth site to Gorham, NH (the Barn Hostel) - 6.1 miles hiked today - 1873.7 total AT miles hiked to date
Nero day today as we hiked into Gorham to the Barn hostel for an overnight with all of the accoutrements. The trail proved tougher than anticipated, with multiple river/creek crossings that required careful stone selection and fine balancing skills. Only one river crossing provided a bridge. There were also more climbs, although the bulk of the terrain took us down steep descents to get us back to the valley.
I started having issues with the balls of both feet toward the end of the hike, so will take a zero tomorrow to address the problem. Once in town, I did stop at the post office and pick up new shoes that Carolyn had sent to me. Once I deal with my foot pain problem, I look forward to donning the last pair of shoes for the hike.
We arrived at the hostel by mid afternoon and took care of resupply, laundry, showers, etc, and settled in for the night. Tomorrow will be a day of rest and recuperation before tackling the last section of New Hampshire. We should hit the Maine border by the weekend.
Until next time…
